Yancheng City's convenient traffic is attributable to a three-dimensional traffic and transportation network comprising expressway, railway, air transportation, sea transportation and canal transportation.

Ningjingyan highway, Yantong highway, Yanlian highway and Xuhuaiyan highway connect the city to destinations in all directions. As of the end of 2015, the total length of trunk road of the city was 19,524km, consisting of national road of 654km and provincial road of 1,270km. Total length of the city's classified road was 17,603km, including 359km as highways, 1,394km as class I road, and 2,495km as class II road.

Yancheng is a city free of traffic jam as the trunk roads in urban Yancheng City are all two-way six-lanes. With the operation of BRT, Yancheng City becomes the second city of the province and the first city north of the Changjiang River to adopt the BRT system. With the completion at the end of 2015 of the 55km urban freeway network, which is an elevated and enclosed network connecting with outer ring highway and the city's comprehensive transport hub, it now takes 15 minutes to travel from any part of the city to the highway.

Possessing Yancheng Nanyang Airport and Yancheng Dafeng Port Area, Yancheng City is a prefecture with both an airport and a seaport as Class I opening up port. The airport of Yancheng City has international and domestic air routes. Yancheng Station on Xinchang Railway provides transportation services sending passengers and commodities to all corners of the country. The city is pushing construction of the high speed railways linking Yancheng City to Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing. Construction for the comprehensive transport hub with an investment of RMB 4,000,000,000 will begin soon. Projects under the "13th five year plan" are underway as scheduled.
