On March 13, with an additional 6 new species compared with the previous 2022 Yancheng Bird Category 1.0, Yancheng Wetland and World Natural Heritage Conservation and Management Center published 2023 Yancheng Birds Category 2.0, which fully demonstrates our progress in birds protection and ecological restoration.
2023 Yancheng Birds Category 2.0 newly recorded a species namely Long-tailed Jaeger in coast of Dongtai and discovery another five species including Grey-chinned Minivet in coast of Dafeng, Eurasian Treecreeper in coast of Dafeng, Common Crossbill in the urban area, Lesser Black-backed in coast of Dongtai Gull and Stellers Sea Eagle in coast of Dongtai. Eurasian Treecreeper and Stellers Sea Eagle are newly recorded in Jiangsu and Stellers Sea Eagle is in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
According to 2023 Yancheng Birds Category 2.0, there are 442 species of wild birds in 23 orders, 73 families recorded in Yancheng, accounting for 29.4% of its whole. Among them, there are 108 species of national key protected wild birds, consisting of 28 national first-class protected birds and 80 national second-class protected birds. 34 of them are listed on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, with 4 CR, 8 EN and 22 VU.
