Construction has officially begun on the Yimei Offshore Factory Project in Sheyang County as the first of its kind in Jiangsu Province. The project will build Jiangsu province’s first offshore processing vessel, integrating seafood processing, cold-chain handling, and capture-to-sales operations into one floating facility. This marks a major step forward in the modernization of Sheyang’s marine fishery industry. The project is a bold innovation in both seafood processing and supply chain models, helping reinforce Sheyang’s role as a “Blue Granary” and advancing Huangsha Port’s transformation into East China’s largest aquatic product trading center.

Invested and developed by Yancheng Yimei Food Co., Ltd., the project involves a total investment of 120 million yuan. It includes one main offshore processing vessel and two auxiliary boats. The primary processing ship is 92 meters long, 16.8 meters wide, and has a gross tonnage exceeding 5,000 tons. Equipped with advanced processing technology and machinery, the ship is capable of cleaning, sorting, cutting, and packaging seafood directly at sea. It also features cold-chain processing facilities to rapidly preserve freshness post-processing.

Compared with traditional fishery production models, this “offshore processing” approach offers significant advantages. Previously, seafood had to be transported back to onshore factories over long distances, during which freshness and quality were often compromised due to exposure to environmental conditions like temperature and humidity. Now, with processing done directly at sea, the time from capture to processing is dramatically shortened, product loss is minimized, and consumers are ensured fresher, higher-quality seafood.
